A visit to the Giraffe Centre in the Langata suburb of Nairobi, home to the endangered Rothschild giraffe. Guests climb a raised wooden viewing platform to hand-feed the giraffes at eye level and learn about the centre's breeding and conservation programme, which has helped bring the species back from the brink in Kenya.

A guided hike through the ancient montane forest surrounding Castle Forest Lodge on the slopes of Mount Kenya. The trail winds through moss-draped trees where black-and-white colobus monkeys leap overhead, sunbirds flash between giant tree heathers, and the mist rolls in from the mountain above.
